I support people overcome their fear of public speaking and deliver amazing presentations.
Here's how I'm going to do it."
"I'm going to reveal you how to have a great opening."
If you're watching this, you probably already know that delivering great presentations is
critical to advance your career.
But did you know that research says that most adults will stop listening to your presentation within the first minutes if they aren't convinced, there's something in it for them?
The issue is that most people are unaware of the skills required to captivate an audience, deliver an excellent presentation, and overcome their anxiety of doing so.
What am I going to do?
Hi (Name)
How's it going?
I'm freaking out about this big presentation, I have to give tomorrow.
Do you have your opening written down and practised three times?
No.
No?
Why not?
I'm terrified and I don't even know where to start.
Trust me, I've been in that situation before and it's not fun.
So to help you out,
I'm going to reveal you how to create a spectacular presentation opening every time using my secret strategy step technique.
Let's shovel it in:
Step number one, which is "Give a Confident Introduction."
Amongst the most common mistakes people make when giving a presentation is expressing anxiousness.
The key is as follows: It's not about whether or not you're nervous; it's about whether or not you show it.
First and foremost, you must STAND STILL.
Don't move.
Don't pace, and keep your hands at your sides.
This is the most calm and confident stance on the planet, and it handles the number need of your audience which is to feel safe.
Now you can introduce yourself and say "Hi, my name is (your name)."
To demonstrate confidence, bring your inflection down at the end.
Instead of "Hi, my name is (your name)?"
Say "Hi, my name is (your name)."
See the difference?
Now we move on to step , which is Give Your Credentials.
Many presenters make the mistake of merely stating their title and years of expertise at this point.
They say something like "I'm a presentation skills coach and I've been doing it for
years."
Your audience, on the other hand, wants to know, "What can you do for me?"
They sometimes have to know who you are, why you're the ideal person for the job, and what you can serve them.
For example, I might say "I help people overcome their fear of public speaking and deliver amazing presentations."
What would that look like for you?
You'll need a quick elevator speech to figure this out.
It looks like this "You know how some people have this problem?
Well I offer this solution."
How you help people is by the answer you provide.
For me, it was "You know how some people have a fear of public speaking and a have
hard time getting their message across in a presentation?
Indeed, I assist them in overcoming their fears and concerns about public speaking and delivering outstanding presentations."
What's your credentials statement?
You'll be amazed at the effect this has on your audience.
Step 3 is to "Deliver Your Hook."
This is how my hook for this video presentation may appear.
"Within the opening minutes of your presentation, I'll show you how to capture your audience."
When you do this, you have to get your audience to "feel" something.
How do you get them to feel?
You have choices.
You can make them feel happier, more successful, or more liberated.
Take a look at my hook.
"Within the opening minutes of your presentation, I'm going to teach you how to capture your audience," I stated.
When your audience is hooked within the first few minutes of your presentation.
You'll be happy because they're paying attention to you, and you'll be more successful since you appear to be an authority figure.
You'll also feel more liberated if you spend less time the night before fretting about your presentation.
Here's the practical side of things for you.
Prepare your presentation by writing down the lines "I'm going to show you..." and then filling in the blanks with anything that will bring your audience more happiness, prosperity, or freedom.
The rule is as follows:
You can't tell them WHAT they'll get until you've explained WHY they'd want it.
Your hook must persuade people to BELIEVE in what you're offering.
Write down WHY your presentation will make your audience happier, more successful, or more free in their lives right now.
Now it's time to move on to step 4, "Introduce Your Agenda."
This stage should be done in PowerPoint, and the slide should look somewhat like this.
The goal of this stage is to show your audience what your presentation's main points are. After listening to your presentation, the items people get to "take away" and utilise tomorrow.
Don't bother reading the slide.
They've reached adulthood.
They are literate.
Instead, simply let them to read it for themselves before introducing your plan by describing what you'll be doing.
This is accomplished by specifying the amount of takeaways you'll be providing and summarising the presentation's aim.
What does this imply for you?
Stage Give a Credible Statement is the final step.
You may achieve this by providing your audience with relevant or intriguing facts to back up your statement.
Keep in mind how I accomplished it at the start of this essay.
"You already know that giving outstanding presentations is important for your professional advancement, however did you know that most people would quit listening to your presentation after the first few minutes if they don't believe there is something there for them?"
When you do this within the first minutes of your presentation, your audience starts to trust you.
Your listeners will begin to think "oooh, this guy understands what he's talking about" without you bragging.
Done.
When I combine those steps, I get something like this.
"Hi, I'm (your name).
"You clearly understand the need of giving good presentations in order to advance.
Wow!
