You've come to this page because you want to learn more about copywriting and how to get started.
So I was struggling financially in my early years, and like most people, I had no idea what I needed to do, so I tried a variety of things. I tried starting this business and that business, but neither of them worked out. After a few years of hardship, I was fortunate enough to locate my first mentor, who was gracious enough to take me under his wing.
And I recall him telling me this.
Right now, I'm thinking, "Wow, this is really powerful."
So, fast forward to today, and let me tell you my definition of copywriting.
After all these years, I believe I've perfected the definition of copywriting, which I'll share with you in a moment.
And I believe that once you hear it, you will be ecstatic and delighted.
It'll make your skin tingle.
Let's get started.
In print, copywriting is coming to an end.
That's correct. In print, we're coming to a close.
It's the ability to persuade, persuade, and persuade others.
That is exactly what copywriting entails.
There's nothing to do with writing about it.
It's about coming to a conclusion.
Because if it's about writing, I'm not sure I could accomplish it because I flunked English in high school.
So copywriting is more about closing and selling than it is about writing, because if it were about writing.
I would not have been able to do it because I flunked English twice in high school.
So that's not the case.
And if it involves a lot of writing, especially academic writing, then all professors, teachers, and English teachers would be effective copywriters.
That isn't the solution.
So I was completely taken aback when he told me this.
He inquired, "Do you know?" "that copywriters are among "the highest paid persons on the planet," but that most people are unaware that "this profession exists"?
And as I already stated (grunts incredulously).
"That's the issue," he explained.
You have no idea what you're missing out on. "You're not getting it."
"Look around you," he said. "Look around you, everywhere.""
And I was perplexed because I was young and ignorant at the time. "Take a look around."
"Every single letter you receive in the mail, "every single TV you watch, "every single product "you buy in your life right now, "because a copywriter came up with the concept, "created the brand, "wrote the message, and that's what persuades you to buy everything around you," he added.
Let me give you an illustration.
Let's pretend there's a business. They have a landing page and are selling a product online.
In case you're unfamiliar with the term, a landing page is a page that makes an offer to sell things.
Let's say they're making $100,000 a year with that particular product on this page, and let's say that page converts at 1%, which means that one person out of every 100 visitors buys. So it's a 1% conversion.
Let's imagine you're a copywriter and you can take a look at the page and make a few changes: you change the headline, you change the offer, you change the guarantee, maybe the call to action, you tweak the page a little bit, and now, instead of converting at 1%, this page now converts at 2%.
Now I want you to reflect on what just transpired and leave a remark below.
As a copywriter, what have you done?
Here's what you've accomplished. You've just increased this company's sales from $100,000 to $200,000 without spending an additional dollar on marketing.
Is it true that they are spending more money?
No. Is it necessary for more people to see the page?
No. Are you increasing the price of the product by adding more features? No.
All you've done is alter a few phrases or the way the product or message is delivered to the market. Do you see the significance of this?
That is copywriting's strength.
The next thought that comes to mind is, "Wow, this is incredible."
"How can I get started as a copywriter?"
You see, you could want to become a copywriter because you know how much money you can make as a copywriter if you're excellent, that you can work from home or from anywhere you want, that you can work when you want, with whom you want, and from wherever you want.
Maybe you're aware since working as a copywriter doesn't necessitate a college diploma or a large sum of money to begin with. That is completely unnecessary.
Now, when it comes to copywriting, you'll need someone who knows what they're doing to teach you how to do it.
It's really tough to simply view a video and declare, "Oh, I'll study copywriting." I always compare copywriting to a form of martial arts.
You might see a film, get an idea, or even watch a video on YouTube and say, "Hey, this is how you perform some of the movements," but how can you study martial arts?
You must attend a school. You must visit a dojo. You'll need a shifu, an instructor, or a sensei to demonstrate you the techniques, and then you'll practise them with your shifu giving you feedback and correcting your form until you can repeat the same move in the same way.
In martial arts, this is how it works. I believe that learning copywriting and being a copywriter are pretty similar.
